After defeating Yama, he took him as a Dharma protector, hence earning the title "Conqueror of Death". As a principal deity of the Anuttarayoga Tantra in Tibetan Esotericism, it ranks among the Three Principal Deities of the Gelugpa Sect alongside Chakrasamvara and Guhyasamaja. Often depicted in thangkas with nine faces, thirty-four arms and sixteen legs, its image has been passed down as a classic of Tibetan Buddhist art.
